Government
Aspen
The Aspen City Council provides leadership, stewardship and service to the town. Through an open and friendly process, the Council works in partnership with residents to supply services not provided by the private sector in order to meet their day-to-day needs, to preserve and enhance community character, and to further the Aspen Dream: the ideal of a community nourishing the mind, body and spirit of its citizens.
The City Council Budget is used to account for all of the direct expenses of the Mayor and the City Council and to fund special projects originating from City Council.
The Council meets the 2nd and fourth Mondays each month in City Hall at 5:00 p.m.
The Community Development Department includes the Planning, Zoning, Historic Preservation, Environmental Health, Development Review, and Building Divisions. All building permits, sign permits, historic property review, land use approvals, zoning review and enforcement, site development review, long range planning, restaurant inspections and community health issues are handled by the Community Development Department.
The Aspen Environmental Health Department monitors air and water quality; inspects restaurants, groceries, and daycare centers; and ensures compliance with the City's wildlife protection ordinance.
Snowmass
The Town of Snowmass Village is a Home Rule Town and operates under a Council/Manager form of government. The Town Manager is responsible for the day-to-day administration of the Town's operations, while the Town Council is the policy making body.
Comprised of four Council Members and one Mayor, the Town Council is the legislative and governing body of the Town. Regular meetings are scheduled for the first, second and third Mondays of each month.
With tourism as the Town's major industry, the Snowmass Village Police Department balances guest services with its goal of protecting life, preventing crime and delivering public safety services in a manner which fosters a spirit of mutual respect and cooperation between Department personnel and the people of the community.
