High speed quad lifts mean you can make the most of it. Ski lifts begin operation from 8:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m, and the ski runs are fabulous! You can start early and finish with an après ski meal or snack, retire for the afternoon at one of the many resorts in the area before venturing out in the evening for a wonderful dining experience.
Aspen Highlands is more of a spine than a mountain, yet it still offers 112 trails. It is a favorite of locals for 47 percent of the trails are expert rated and many feature outstanding mogul runs that soften up nicely in the sun. Even if you are not up for trying an expert run, a chairlift ride to the summit is worth the time for the views of the Maroon Bells are stunning. Beginners and intermediates can find trails to their liking on the lower half of the mountain. The mountain is serviced by four lifts and three restaurants.
There are also guided backcountry programs at Aspen Highlands. The one-day program offers expert skiers and snowboarders guided access to Highlands Ridge located just outside the ski area boundary.
"With the famous Maroon Bells and Pyramid Peak framed as the scenic centerfold, this traverse offers unparalleled panoramic views, and over 4,000 vertical feet of untracked, virgin skiable terrain to the valley below," says Dick Jackson, internationally certified IFMGA mountain guide and owner/director of Aspen Expeditions.
Other winter activities in the Highlands include avalanche courses, ice climbing, and hut trips.
