Aspen Trail System
Aspen, Colorado is home to a very extensive and much appreciated trail
system. The Aspen Trail System provides both summer and winter
use making it one of the largest trail systems in the state.
Managed by the Parks Department, over 20 miles of hard surface, soft
surface and single-track trails are available. All of the trails
are multi-use trails, unless otherwise noted. All posted closures
and permitted uses are established for users to follow. The Aspen
Trail System provides an almost seamless system, interconnected between
Aspen/Snowmass and down valley to Woody Creek and Basalt.
While on the trails, be sure to enjoy all the natural beauty that
surrounds the trail system. Dogs are welcomed, but must be
leashed at all times with special care and consideration for all other
users, especially to horse riders and bicyclists. Remember to
think of others and cleanup after your dogs so that the Aspen Trail
System remains a scenic and natural environment.
There are public trail easements provided to citizens and visitors with
some of the most underutilized and unknown trails in the system.
These easements range from winter ski trails, fisherman and hiking
trails. Keep in mind that most easements are bordered by private
property and do your part by respecting the owners whom have granted
this access to the public.
In the winter, the Aspen/Snowmass Nordic Trail System offers groomed
skiing for both classic and skate skiing, although there are some
trails that are classic-only. This is a true winter trail system
and does encourage snowshoe use on all of its trails although walkers,
runner and bicyclists are not permitted.
