Crystal River
The Crystal River in Colorado runs for almost thirty-five miles along a quiet picturesque path which is surrounded by some of Colorado's most spectacular scenery. Beginning above the town of Marble, the River ends at Carbondale where it merges with the Roaring Fork River. more info
At the headwaters there is a high alpine marble deposit which has been quarried to use in many well-known buildings, which include the Lincoln Memorial. This makes the drive through the town of Marble a scenic drive as you head out to the Crystal River.
The scenery is not as great, but the fishing is best at the confluence of the Crystal River and the Roaring Fork River. This is a great spot for great fishing during the spring and the fall when the angler can encounter the rainbow trout and the brown trout that are swimming up the Crystal River to spawn. There is also a large population of Whitefish in the Crystal River.
In addition to great fishing, the Crystal River has a fantastic mix of water that has some rough 'n tumble sections and some boulder-strewn plunge pools. This is great for the enthusiastic kayaker in the spring. Great scenery combined with great fishing and great outdoor water recreation activities make the Crystal River a great find.
