Doc Holliday tried to continue with dentistry, but his health condition would not allow it. Holliday turned to gambling, which he had a natural talent for. With gambling came arguments and gunfights, and Doc Holliday constantly found himself on the run with a fearsome reputation. Eventually, Holliday met Wyatt Earp and the two developed and unlikely friendship. The friendship brought the pair to Tombstone, Arizona in 1880, and events culminated into the famous Gunfight at the O.K. Corral, which many eyewitnesses claim Doc had started.
Doc Holliday retired in Glenwood Springs, Colorado where the sulfur emitted from the springs destroyed his lung tissue. Tuberculosis eventually got the best of him, but only a long 15 years after the doctors initially told him he had mere months to live. Upon his deathbed, Doc Holliday muttered his last words, "This is funny," because he thought he would die a grueling death instead of a peaceful one in bed. Doc Holliday is buried in the Glenwood Cemetery (Old Hill Cemetery) in Colorado.
