Nature & Wildlife
With its location high in the Rocky Mountains, Aspen, Colorado is a Mecca for all types of wildlife, wildflowers, and high mountain foliage. It is a great place to rejuvenate you and to get those one of a kind pictures. This popular mountain town is surrounded by the White River National Forest and is nestled in a flat valley, which is surrounded on three sides by mountain ranges – the Aspen, Smuggler and Red Mountain. Aspen is the place to truly enjoy nature.
Aspen enjoys four distinctive seasons, but due its high elevation and the intense sunshine in the area, it is wise to always use sunscreen. During the summer, the visitor can enjoy wildlife viewing in warm and dry temperatures, with an occasional afternoon rain shower. The mountain wildflowers bloom with all the magical colors imaginable and their fragrance is lifted into the air by the summer warmth.
During the fall, you can expect to see the beautiful fall colors associated with high mountain aspens and will be able to spot deer grazing beneath the template of yellow, orange and brown colors. The evenings get a little chilly, but the summer foliage generally last until the first winter frost.
Even with a blanket of winter snow, Aspen can be a great place to enjoy all the pleasures of being in the wide-open areas surrounded by mountains and filled with crisp mountain air. When you are dressed appropriately, it is easy to enjoy the area without feeling the chill of winter.
Spring is when nature renews itself in the mountain valley. Flowers spring anew from grass-covered valley floors, young fawns scamper behind their mothers, and snow turns into fresh, sparkling water falls and streams.
Aspen is one of the best places on earth to visit. Come any time of year and enjoy the scenes of the season.
