What better way to spend a beautiful, sunny day in Aspen, Colorado and the Roaring Fork Valley then hitting balls on nicely manicured links. Although you will be enjoying great views and breathing crisp fresh mountain air, you will also be spending more money than a round of 18 at your local miniature golf course. It’s Aspen, and yes playing golf there isn’t cheap. Golf is a high-end sport and Aspen is a high-end resort town, so be prepared for high-end green fees.
The local municipal 18-hole golf course in Aspen is home to 7,000-yards-plus of water hazards, deep bunkers and precise pin placement. The course is located across highway 82 near the turnoff to Maroon Bells and offers a number of helpful discounts.
Within a short car drives distance from downtown Aspen is another worthwhile public course that can be played on a space-availability basis only. Designed by Arnold Palmer and Ed Seay, the 18-hole course is part of the large recreation facility that also includes tennis, racquetball and squash courts, as well as a gym and athletic club complete with all the luxuries that you would expect to find in Aspen. Green fees are about $60 and discounts on twilight play, after 4 p.m., are also offered. While you are in Aspen, check out the visitors center for more information on all surrounding golf courses.
