Paragliding has become a popular sport in recent years and offers everything for the beginner to veteran. When you’re in Aspen and looking to partake in an off-the-beaten-path adventure, a tandem flight, where you and an instructor will ride together, is an option that is sure to get the blood pumping.
Surrounded by the White River National Forest, the mountain flying in Aspen has been recognized as one of the premier paragliding locations in the world. With no experience at all, you can fly over Aspen or Snowmass tandem with a United States Hang Gliding Association certified tandem pilot and enjoy the adventure and scenery from thousands of feet above the ground. While soaring through the air under the wing of a professional flight instructor you will learn perfect in-flight skills that ultimately will be critical if you decide you want to learn how to fly solo. Most tandem courses offer intensive ground handling skills, classroom and video work and radio-assisted flight instruction for initial solo flights.
In Aspen, tandem flights are offered both in the summer and winter, depending on the weather. After receiving a flight briefing from your pilot and fitted into a comfortable harness, you will be a few running steps away from becoming airborne with your guide sitting behind you. In the winter, most flights take off from Aspen and Snowmass Mountains. In the summer, enjoy a ride up Aspen Mountain’s lifts to a number of launch sites. The average paragliding experience lasts approximately two hours. For more information, check out the visitors center located in downtown Aspen.
