Denver International Airport is the only major airport to be built in the U.S. in the last 25 years. The current facility can accommodate 50 million passengers a year without any additional construction. In 2002, DIA served 35.65 million passengers, an average of nearly 98,000 per day. Situated on 34,000 acres or 53 square miles, DIA is one of the largest airports in the world. It serves 23 passenger airlines and dozens of flights per day.
The Jeppesen Terminal has more than 1.5 million square feet of space.
Including the three airside concourses, there is more than 6 million square feet of public space at DIA. Concourses A, B and C have a total of 89 gates. At full build-out, DIA has room for an additional terminal and two more concourses - facilities that can serve 100 million passengers per year.
Visitors are in for a rare Colorado experience when they pass through Denver International Airport. The Public Art Program features 26 site-specific works created by 39 artists and includes sculptures, murals and installations. The pieces are located in the landscape, the architecture of Jeppesen Terminal and Concourses, and in the train tunnels and communication systems.
Along with the permanent art collection, the airport has an exhibition program that includes several venues with changing exhibits. A theme is developed for each exhibit from an artistic point of view and interpretation. The program collaborates with museums, cultural institutions and arts organizations to present the highest quality
two- and three-dimensional work.
During the holidays the Performing Arts series provides a pleasant diversion from what can be a stressful travel process. Musicians, children's choirs and roving performers entertain passengers, visitors and employees by creating a festive and welcoming atmosphere.
