Snowmass, Buttermilk, and Aspen Highlands resorts have extensive ski school programs for young skiers and boarders. These resorts also have full day child care options as well. At all resorts in the Aspen area, kids under 6 years old ski for free. Buttermilk is a great mountain to learn how to ski or snowboard offering mellow slopes and a handful of terrain parks. For the whole family, Snowmass is a mountain with a variety of terrain and great family snow activities. There is a series of interactive skiing trails offering information on nature and scenery. Guided skiing nature tours are also offered at Snowmass for free. Race arenas, half-pipes and terrain parks, and a picnic area will make skiing and snowboarding an enjoyable experience for children.
For kids who aren't into the skiing world on their Aspen vacation there are many other fun activities to keep them busy and entertained. Snowshoeing, ice skating, riding on sleighs and snowcats, and many evening activities are just some examples of things to do. Many guided snowcat and sleigh rides offer evening rides including dinner and games for the whole family. Snowmass and Aspen Mountain offer free snowcat tours on the mountain for all ages. Space is limited and you can reserve a single spot on the snowcat to experience how runs are groomed daily.
Tube town on Assay hill at Snowmass is open daily from 1 to 8pm and is a ton of fun for kids over 4 years old. Enjoy ice skating at indoor arenas like Aspen Ice Garden or outdoors at Silver Circle Ice Rink. Aspen is also home to many swimming pools, an indoor rock climbing wall, and an indoor paintball warehouse. Kids ages 6 and over can enjoy this action packed and safe sport in the middle of winter.
If you are visiting in late January don't miss the famous X-Games events. In the evenings, there are movie theatres and great family restaurants in town. Many babysitting services are available in Aspen and some offer day and evening kid camps.
