Mountain Information
Buttermilk Mountain is just three miles from Aspen, and is rated as the easiest of Aspen's four mountains. This gem of an area is the perfect environment for beginners to find their ski legs since its reputation is of a gentler kind than the Highlands. Seven lifts service 43 trails that are predominantly rated for beginners and intermediates. Most of the mountain is groomed nightly so as to boost skiing confidence. These groomed runs are as smooth as corduroy which make for a great family area and for those who are perfecting carving skills. more info

Buttermilk is known as a premier learning mountain with a new three-day course that allows beginners to progress at a quick pace. A "graduate" day is offered to help keep the learning going. On this fourth day, it is guaranteed that you will be able to successfully ski a run at Aspen Highlands, or get your money back. What a deal!
One of the best-kept secrets about Buttermilk is the powder stashes found days after a storm in the gladed trails and black-diamond runs. It will be an experience you'll find impossible to forget.
Buttermilk opened in 1958 as a teaching mountain because folks felt that Aspen Mountain was too tough. Giving first-timers a head start has given Buttermilk a reputation as a newcomer's dream. It also features challenging runs, providing more advanced visitors with an excellent playground.
Snowboarders will find paradise - one half pipe and a terrain park. The two-mile terrain park, called Playstation2 Crazy Train, is the longest in the world and boasts a new permanent slope style course that was built to host the 2004 ESPN Winter X Games. Lit and wired for sound, the park features other improvements, like the new Zaugg Pipe Cutter.
