Aspen, Colorado is located about 2 ½ hours (170 miles) west of Denver along Hwy 82. You can access Aspen either from Interstate 70- exiting at Glenwood Springs. This is the easiest way to drive. You also have the option of exiting I-70 just past the town of Dillon on to Hwy 91, which will lead you to Hwy 82. There are shuttle buses and greyhound buses that run a regular schedule between the Denver International Airport and Aspen. Rental Cars are also available in both Denver and Aspen.
Aspen, Colorado is nestled in to the Rocky Mountains and boasts some of the best outdoor recreation in the United States. Most likely you have heard of Aspen due to its popularity among movie stars and other celebrities. The movies "Aspen Extreme" and "Dumb and Dumber" made light of the high class culture that stereotypes Aspen. Truly, however, Aspen is one of the oldest and most genuine of western mountain towns. Compared to other Colorado ski towns, Aspen has matured more naturally and is considered a "real town" instead of a ski development. Thanks to its popularity among the wealthy, luxurious services (including an airport) are available just by snapping your fingers (and emptying the change in your pockets…).
The best time of year to visit Aspen depends on your interests. If you are an avid skier, you'll enjoy a wide variety of terrain and great snow! If you move at a slower pace, you might consider visiting Aspen in the fall when the namesake trees are changing color. For families, Aspen is a wonderful place to visit during the summer months. Hiking, biking, swimming, summer camps and more will provide your family with quality time together.
