A condo town built beside the slopes of one of Colorado's largest ski mountains, Snowmass is a great destination for avid skiers. Designed mostly for intermediates and beginners, the area offers some challenging steeps for the more experienced.

Snowmass is located 12 miles from Aspen. Snowmass offers wonderful ski-in lodging, as well as free postcards and stamps if you want to write home about your experience. Snowmass is truly unique in the world of skiing - in 1997 a high altitude surface lift was installed to make access to The Cirque readily available to anyone. In the past this part of the mountain was only accessible with a snowcat, or by hiking. This run is now the biggest lift-served vertical drop in the country.

The lift on The Cirque operates 60 to 75 days of the year, allowing access to terrain best for intermediates and experts. The Cirque has limited access to prevent over-exploitation of the terrain.

Snowmass has always been known as a cruiser's mountain. The Big Burn lets you ski almost effortlessly; the cruise from the top of Elk Camp to Fanny Hill lasts a whopping 4 miles. However, if you're looking for more adventure, it is possible to find exhilarating steeps, cornices, chutes, and cliffs.

As you unload from the High Alpine lift, the Hanging Valley area to your left is where you can find more challenging hills. The Cirque Headwall and East Wall are located to the left of the Cirque lift. On busy days arrive early to access the Hanging Valley Glades.

Snowmass Village is an experience in and of itself. This winter resort is quite charming. The village mall has shops, restaurants, bars, and skier services. The lower part of the resort boasts a line of condos - most of the lodging is ski-in/ski-out. Talk about convenience!

Just make sure you remember where your condo is before heading down the slopes – you can easily get lost among the sea of condos with similar facades. You don't want to lose your way just when it's time for a hot cup of cocoa.
