Glenwood Springs in the summertime offers so much to do outdoors around the canyon areas and through the dense forests and even in the sky.

  • Hiking and Biking
    Many hiking trails beckon within the surrounding areas of Glenwood Springs. Some of the trails you can take are the No Name Creek Trail, Hanging Lake Trail and Storm King Memorial Trail. Biking is perfect on Glenwood Canyon Trail, an easy 16-mile paved path.
  • Climbing
    There’s plenty of climbing around Glenwood Springs, Colorado. Steep climbing is available at Dead Horse or some challenging climbs exist at Grizzly Creek. Of course, you also have the option of taking on some exciting indoor or outdoor climbing walls around town to get in practice.
  • Rafting
    Whitewater rafting on the Colorado River is one unique way to spend some vacation time. You can take a short trip or go out for a multi-day adventure. Hiring a guide will not only make your trip safe and carefree, but will provide you with all the gear necessary.
  • Fishing
    Besides two large rivers that converge within town, the Colorado and the Roaring Fork, there are numerous streams, lakes, reservoirs and dams within a 7-mile radius where you can fish to your heart’s content. You can make a day trip to other large rivers, as well, such as the Gunnison and Frying Pan Rivers.
  • Hot air ballooning
    Soar above the mountaintops on a hot air balloon flight. Some flights offer a sit-down breakfast and music on this dream ride. The panoramic views are amazing.
  • Paragliding
    In simple flight, alone in the clouds, paragliding is something you have to try to believe. You can even go tandem with experienced pilots, if that makes you feel safer. Launch from a high point and become airborne to add that special touch to any vacation in the Rockies.

Winter

  • Downhill skiing
    You’ll find steep ski runs at the Sunlight Mountain Resort, close to Glenwood Springs. With a vertical drop of 2,010 feet, you will thrill to the trails such as Heathen, with a 52-degree pitch.
  • Cross-country skiing
    Take off into the backcountry on any of the ten miles of groomed trails in the area. Easily accessed, you will find pure enjoyment in the Glenwood Springs area.
  • Snowmobiling
    The best break from skiing is to take a snowmobile trip. When you get a snowmobile tour, you will have all equipment provided along with experienced guides to lead the way.
  • Snowshoeing
    Snowshoeing, either self-guided or with an outfitter, gets you into the White River National Forest on a number of trails suited to all levels of ability.
